REVIEW

Readers who have previously read Sarah’s Legacy and Sarah’s Legacy Shared: Book Two will be very pleased with the way Townsend developed the third book in this amazing series. Once again set in the tiny town of Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania in the early 1900s Sarah’s Legacy Tested: Book Three takes us back to many of the beloved characters we came to know so well throughout the earlier trilogy installments and allows us to once again dive into the intricacies of their lives in a thought-provoking and intimate way.
Polly, now grown but still living at home, spends her days caring for her father’s house and her younger siblings as she continues to strive to fulfill the promise she made to her late mother on her deathbed. Forsaking her own personal life and dedicating all her time to her family, Polly begins to truly wonder if ever a time of love and life outside her childhood home will ever come for her.
This is a story of love and redemption, both personal and spiritual. It’s a story that inspires and encourages while it simultaneously entertains. I loved, how as always seems to be the case with this series, Townsend wrote her characters into situations that were fully relatable in a number of ways. The confrontations, self doubts, and realization of dreams all struck a chord with this reader as I expect they will do with most. And it’s this ability to write a story that allows the reader to truly connect with the characters that, in my opinion, makes these books so amazing and Townsend such a genuinely great author.

Sarah’s Legacy Tested

Update III

January 28, 2020

We’re getting closer, folks! Back Cover blurb and input from Beta Readers #1 and #2 below…

This is really wonderful and powerful on so many levels. It’s great writing, great story-telling, and life-changing!” (Stacey Pardoe)

When Polly hears her father whistling for the first time since her mother’s death five years earlier, she fears he is interested in Lydia Wilds, a widow she doesn’t trust. A year and a half later, Polly discovers her father has taken Mrs. Wilds to the Dye cottage for a week, along with his parents and some other family members.

Polly feels betrayed and angry that her father has kept his relationship with Mrs. Wilds a secret. The guiding motivation of Polly’s life has been her promise given at her mother’s deathbed to help her father raise the children. She assumed if she remained single, her father would never remarry. How could she bear it if he brought another woman into her mother’s house? Especially a woman she doesn’t trust.

Will Polly’s promise to her mother keep her from finding love?
Will Bob Dye marry Lydia Wilds in spite of Polly’s fears?
Will Sarah’s legacy and Polly’s relationship with God help her survive the storms that rise to test her faith?

Beta Reader #1

I read more than expected yesterday…and this is my favorite book so far—and I loved the others! The dynamics of multiple story lines interwoven… are just so captivating! Well done! Can’t wait to keep reading!

(Later same day) I actually slipped away to the basement to read more this afternoon… because I cannot put it down. I felt that way with every book, but this one the most. You really weave a masterful story. I’m captivated. And the Holy Spirit is touching me. I’m copying and pasting quotes to meditate on later alone with God….It’s like they’re breathed from God (because I know he does breathe through you!).

This is really wonderful and so powerful on so many levels! It’s great writing, great story-telling, and life-changing!

A Favorite Quote of Beta Reader #1 and #2:
“Sometimes we want something so desperately that when we ask God for it, we’re unable to receive His peace because we can’t bear to consider the possibility that God may not give us what we want.”

Beta Reader #2

I loved this book! I was just going to “get started Sunday” afternoon, but I couldn’t put it down and ended up finishing it by Sunday night!! The stories that unfolded and the lessons taught were exactly what they should have been, even though I didn’t anticipate most of the plot at all! I like to be surprised when it comes to story line! Once again the epilogue created the perfect ending…all is right with the world of Sarah’s Legacy!!

A Favorite Quote:
“False guilt is one of Satan’s shiniest weapons.”

Sarah’s Legacy Tested

Update II

January 20,  2020

On Friday, January 17, 2020, I finished my edits and corrections on Sarah’s Legacy Tested and sent it off by email to my Beta readers (people who read the manuscript before it’s published). Those of you who are writers know this is the scariest time in the whole book process–if you don’t have Beta readers, the scariest time is when people in general start reading your book. It is also the time when Satan attacks me most. This time was no exception. Actually, it was the worst time yet.

Throughout the rest of Friday, all of Saturday, and Sunday morning, the enemy whispered things like: “It’s no good,” “You’ll have to rewrite it,” “They’re going to hate it,” etc. etc. etc. One would think by now I’d be ready to resist this attack but insecurity is huge at a time like this.

Then on Sunday morning, I got an email from one of my Beta readers saying, “…this is my favorite book so far…and I loved the others,” and other encouraging comments. Wow! What a relief. I thanked her and told her the battle I’d been fighting. Later in the afternoon, she emailed me again. “Daisy, this is SO good.” She told me she had hidden away in the basement to read more  “…because I cannot put it down. I felt that way with every book, but this one the most. You really weave a masterful story. I’m captivated. And the Holy Spirit is touching me….” I wept tears of relief and joy.

I’m so thankful when God sees we’re being beaten down by the enemy and recruits warriors to help shut the lions’ mouths. There’s a reason we’re meant to be part of the body of Christ.

When I receive  input from all my Beta readers and make any needed corrections, we’ll be ready for the only part of the process I hate–the actual publishing of Sarah’s Legacy Tested. It is a grueling process that takes every ounce of skill and courage Donn and I can muster with the enabling of the Holy Spirit. Please pray for us!

UPDATE I

In February, 2019, I began the first draft of Sarah’s Legacy Tested (although at the time, the title was Sarah’s Legacy Lived), Book Three of the Sarah’s Legacy Series. Book Three was to be the last book of the series, but several months into the writing process, I realized I could never cover  the remaining portion of the lives of the people my characters were based on in one book. Since I only had three titles for my series, I began to pray about a fourth title. Soon I realized the present book needed to be called Sarah’s Legacy Tested and the fourth book, Sarah’s Legacy Lived.

In Books One and Two, I waited until each book was finished before I began the critique stage. This resulted in a lot of frustration as I waited for critiques to come in without much writing to do. So in April, 2019, I decided to begin the critique process on the chapters that were ready of Sarah’s Legacy Tested, while continuing to work on the rest of the book. This has made life a little busier because I also have to do critiques for other people while my work is being critiqued, but it will save time (and a lot of frustration) in the end.

Yesterday, August 14, 2019, I started Part II of Sarah’s Legacy Tested. After a few weeks away from my desk, it feels good to be back at work, and I’m pretty happy with the beginning of Part II. I’m also happy with the new setup in my office that allows me to write standing up, a good option because of health issues I have. God is good!
