What is the Most Important Thing in Your Life?

Several weeks ago, Donn and I each had a “Wellness appointment” at Primary Health, a service our insurance company pays for and for which we are rewarded with gifts cards. We do it once a year so most of the questions they ask are familiar, but one of them I had forgotten…

“What is the most important thing in your life at this time?”

After the question was asked, I remembered the answer I had given before and my answer had not changed. “The most important thing in my life is my relationship with the Lord. I have a wonderful husband but God is the only one who can say He will always be there for me. Someday one of us will die, and it will be important that the other one knows that God is our Rock.

“That’s what got us through when our son died, and a year and a half later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I knew I had a choice: I could either trust or I could be afraid. I chose to trust, and I bought a little piece of wood at Cracker Barrel that said, trust to put on my vanity to remind me of my choice each day. That was what got me through.

I have no idea where our wellness nurse is spiritually, but she was nodding and making notes. I pray that if one day, she finds herself facing life-threatening issues, that she too will first of all, make a choice to surrender her life to Jesus if she has never done that, and then choose to stand on the Rock and trust.

What about you? If you were asked, “What is the most important thing in your life right now,” what would your answer be?

There are probably many answers you could give to that question: my health, my children, my grandchildren, my job, my spouse, my home, even my garden, or my flower bed.  But I believe if we make the right choice on a day when we and our loved ones are healthy and our finances are good, we will come through the difficult times more easily.

Psalm 125:1says, Those who trust in the Lord are as steady as Mount Zion, unmoved by any circumstance. If we practice trusting in God and making our relationship with Him the most important thing in our life every day, by His grace, we can be as steady as Mount Zion when the storms come.

Heavenly Father, enable us by your grace to make our relationship with you the most important thing in our lives. Help us practice placing our faith in you every day of our lives, even when the sun is shining, so that you will keep us steady in the stormy gales. Amen.

I Love This!!! This is just so good, and so basic to our whole lives! Our foundation to the way we respond to the storms, and the calm sunny times as well. Thank you Daisy!!!
