Two Babies?

Surely God is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid (Isaiah 12:2 NIV).
At my eight-month maternity check up, my heart pounded as Dr. Hunter poked, prodded, and listened longer than he ever had at any previous examination. What could be wrong? Couldn’t he find a heartbeat? Fear kept me silent until at last he said, “I want you to go to the hospital for some tests.” Then the question I had been repressing exploded from my lips, “Why?”
With a smile, Dr. Hunter responded, “You may think I’m crazy, but I think you’re going to have TWO BABIES!”

Speechless for a moment, I stared at him before words again poured from my lips. “We can’t have twins. We live in an efficiency apartment!” (Donn had eight more months of graduate school to go.)
Fear and dread filled my heart. What would my husband, unsuspecting in the waiting room, think of this development? How would he respond? However, I needn’t have worried. From the first moment Donn knew we might have twins, he was as excited and happy as he might have been under more ideal circumstances. His excitement could not be dimmed by anything I said about our income ($300 a month) or our small apartment.
As I began to catch Donn’s enthusiasm, my fears began to subside. His joy at the possibility of two babies crowded out my misgivings and helped me focus instead on the special gift God was giving us. I realized how easy it is to allow fear to blindside us and rob us of the gifts God wants us to enjoy!
Thank you, Father, for providing whatever we need to overcome our fears. Amen.
